Tomorrow, the 31st of October, makes it 20 years since OutKast released the now classic and highly regarded album Stankonia. I was seven years old, going for eight when the album released and as a non english native speaker and being a child this album mostly flew over my head – however, i do have memories of Ms. Jackson playing on MTV and i believe this to be the first time i came into contact with OutKast. Years later i was bumping Hey Ya! and Roses until my parents and sibling would lose their mind. And OutKast was my first venture into the hiphop/rap-universe, so, i have OutKast to thank for a lot of musical experiences i’ve had since. I retreat back to OutKast a lot and i find myself from time to time to just listen to ATLiens for days because it has all the elements of groove, lyrics and it just makes me relax.
To celebrate the 20th anniversery of the album-release OutKast put out a deluxe album of Stankonia which contains all the regular songs, a few remixes, and a few acappellas. One of these mixes is a mix of B.O.B. (Bombs over Baghdad) by Zack de la Rocha, who’s one of the most highly regarded rappers of all time and one of my personal favourites. This mix gets to me since it sounds a lot like Rage Against The Machine and it’s rather different from the original album version of B.O.B..
The deluxe album is already out on Spotify, which is my go-to, and other streaming services and is available to be listened to as a deluxe album. I know i will be bumping OutKast this week, and i hope you will, aswell.
Until next time, take care.
